Jean-Pierre was born in Venezuela and raised in a mixed French/Venezuelan culture where music and art in general were important pillars in the family. His father, a talented and avid amateur shooter, got him his first film camera (Canon T70) at age 16, and JP began experimenting, learning basic techniques and composition on his own. In the 90's, his focus shifted onto furthering his skills as a musician and pursuing a career in software in Montreal, Canada. It wasn't until the year 2000 that JP would re-discover his passion for photography, not with the advent of digital cameras but ironically through slide film projection; the brightness, size, and sharpness of those images had a profound influence on his future work. JP transitioned to digital cameras in 2002. Since then, JP has approached photography as a generalist, shooting wherever and whenever he feels "connected" with his subject; people, landscapes, urban life, and wildlife share profound qualities and values, allowing him to approach them in very similar ways. Recently though, he's been particularly interested in urban scenes, textures, and abstract forms revealed through his macro lens.
Today Jean-Pierre lives in Miami and has exhibited his work in well established art galleries in the US and Canada, published wildlife and landscape images on National Geographic Magazine's web site, licensed photos to paper publications on wildlife/travel and sports websites, and done extensive commercial work in the music scene.
